Whether you’re a hard-core, costume-donning comic book fan, or you’ve just caught a couple of episodes of The Big Bang Theory, most of us will have heard of Comic-Con.

The San Diego event is the biggest of its kind in the world, and annually welcomes a staggering 130,000 attendees to the city’s Convention Centre (as well as across Downtown), who all convene, usually in fabulously elaborate costume, to meet creators, experts, stars and other fans.

It’s obviously a huge deal in the comic book stan world, but in some really, really exciting news for enthusiasts in Europe, the convention is going international for the first time ever!

According to HypeBeast, the debut European convention will take place between September 25-28 in Málaga, Spain, which has been chosen, in the words of San Diego Comic Convention Chief Communications & Strategy Officer David Glanzer, because ‘We couldn’t have found a more vibrant, welcoming, and creative city to begin this exciting new chapter for fans and creators.’

The convention was announced at an event at the Gran Hotel Miramar in Málaga, hosted by senior representatives of Comic-Con and figures such as Mayor of Málaga Francisco de la Torre Prados as well as ‘more than 200 exclusive guests from the worlds of film, entertainment, television, comics, and illustration,’ according to the Hollywood Reporter

We don’t yet know what the itinerary of the event will look like, but rumour has it that the scale could be on par with the San Diego convention, with a similar roster of panel discussions, autograph sessions, meet-and-greets and exhibitions, as well as those sweet, sweet Comic-Con exclusive announcements.
