Cost of Grand River Transit monthly fares set to rise 2.5% this summer

Prices have continued to rise in many areas of Canadian life recently, including the cost of using public transportation in the Waterloo area.

As part of budget deliberations earlier this week, Waterloo Regional Council approved a 2.5% fare increase for all fares.

“The 2.5% fare increase will take effect later this year to support a 5% increase in service hours,” a regional spokesperson told Global News in an email.

“Improvements include additional weekend services, additional trips to reduce overcrowding, and the return of universities, colleges and iXpress routes to pre-pandemic levels.”

This jumps the cost of a one-way ticket from $3.50 to $3.75 and the cost of a monthly pass from $90 to $92.
