IHG Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with Felix Capital, has unveiled plans for the Crowne Plaza Maroochydore, a hotel development located on Ocean Street in Maroochydore, Australia. The project will feature 180 guest rooms and over 770 square meters of meeting and event space, including a 600-square-meter ballroom. Additional amenities will include a 30-meter pool, spa, wellness retreat, gym, sauna, and secure basement parking across two levels.
The food and beverage facilities at the hotel will comprise a 210-seat all-day restaurant, a 160-seat signature dining venue, an outdoor pool bar and lounge, and a lobby bar.
The development represents a shift from an earlier concept for a voco Maroochydore hotel, with the new plan focusing on meeting the Sunshine Coast’s growing demand for conference and event infrastructure. The decision to reimagine the project was made in collaboration with Felix Capital, emphasizing the strategic importance of incorporating conference and event facilities into the hotel design.
Construction of the Crowne Plaza Maroochydore is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with an anticipated opening in 2028. This project marks the second collaboration between IHG and Felix Capital, following their 2024 agreement for the Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra, which is expected to open in 2030.
Local and state government estimates indicate that the region will require over 2,400 additional hotel rooms, or approximately 10 new hotels, by 2032 to support economic development. The Crowne Plaza Maroochydore is expected to contribute significantly to meeting this demand, providing infrastructure for tourism and business travel, as well as opportunities for year-round events and exhibitions.
