Better late than never, they say. So when word got out that a Days of Thunder sequel was in the works, fans of certain generations were certainly delighted.

More recently, it was announced that Anne Hathaway is now joining Tom Cruise for follow-up to the 1990 NASCAR film, which also starred Nicole Kidman and Randy Quaid.

And on Sunday, August 30, Dennis Quaid‘s eccentric brother, 75, took to social media to share his, shall we say, unfiltered thoughts on Days of Thunder 2 casting Hathaway, 43, alongside Cruise, 64.

“Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA,” Randy wrote in his recent X post. “The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole [Kidman]. That’s the casting that would sell the idea.”

Randy also addressed the making of the first movie in his fiery tweet Sunday, adding, “It’s interesting because when we made the first one there was also a rush to get it out; editors slept in the cutting room on shifts. This is a weird thing, like they want it to come out and tank.”

How Hathaway’s Casting Was Revealed to Fans

Cruise and the Devil Wears Prada actress shared the announcement on social media Saturday, August 30, releasing a promotional image of them posing next to a NASCAR vehicle wrapped with the words “Days of Thunder, Summer 2028.” In the photo, the actors match in button-down shirts and blue jeans, with Hathaway stunning in a cowboy hat.

“Let’s make the movie,” Hathaway said to Cruise in an Instagram reel. “I’m gonna have this baby, and then we’re gonna make this movie.”

According to Variety, Cruise will reprise his role as Cole Trickle, with Hathaway playing a racecar team owner and engineer. Jonathan Levine will direct, and Cruise will produce the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.
