'Deadwood' and 'Nashville' Star Turns 77

The Carradine family spans far and wide in showbiz, and one of its Academy Award-winning members just turned 77.

Keith Carradine won Oscar gold 50 years ago for his musical contribution to the hit film Nashville, but his talents didn’t stop there. He has kept busy in Hollywood ever since, including memorable work on the small screen with standout roles in HBO’s Deadwood and Showtime’s Dexter.

Saturday, August 8 marks Keith’s 77th birthday, coming during a busy year for the veteran performer and musician. His streaming series Imperfect Women recently dropped on Apple TV, where Keith can be spotted in four episodes. Plus, he starred in an episode of ABC’s hit show High Potential earlier in 2026.

Indeed, the last name “Carradine” should sound familiar — even if you’re not a hardcore movie buff. The late, great David Carradine — Keith’s paternal half-brother — portrayed the titular “Bill” in Quentin Tarantino‘s acclaimed Kill Bill films.

Remembering Nashville, Five Decades Later

Fifty years ago this year, Keith was one of many big names featured in Robert Altman‘s timeless film Nashville. According to reports about the production, all the actors were told to write and sing their own tracks for their characters.

In Nashville, Keith plays Tom Frank, a guitarist in a folk-rock trio hoping to go solo. He sings the track during an open mic, with the tender ballad being dedicated to someone in the audience — and all the women in attendance thinking it’s them. In reality, Tom is a womanizer and abuser who was dedicating the song to his next conquest.

Fans can say that Keith’s “I’m Easy” was not only perfectly suited to his on-screen character, but also to the actor’s true intentions for the track, as he was trying to impress a former co-star. Find out more here.
