Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez officially confirmed what many suspected (and feared!): Lopez filed for divorce pro se (without a lawyer) on Aug. 20, 2024, the second anniversary of their Georgia estate wedding ceremony. Citing irreconcilable differences, she listed their separation date as April 26, 2024, and their financial entanglements may be harder to parse out than their emotional ones. Here’s what we know so far.

Do Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have a prenup?

TMZ reported that the original Bennifer did not have a prenup—which means a lot of money can be at stake in their split. The pair got legally married in July 2022, and anything each of them earned within those two years that they were together would legally be considered community property, PEOPLE reports.

Any potential debt incurred during the marriage is also considered community property. The pair splashed out on a $68 million mansion in Beverly Hills (with 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms, if you’re into that sort of thing). TMZ reports that agents haven’t had any takers since the estranged couple listed it for sale, and that they have a $20 million mortgage on the property.

Here’s where it can get really messy: Affleck and his lifelong BFF Matt Damon co-founded their production company, Artists Equity, in November 2022—four months after Affleck and Lopez tied the knot.

That means, per TMZ, that Affleck’s ownership stake could also be community property, making Lopez potentially eligible for earnings on films like Air (which he directed and in which he also starred), The Accountant 2, Small Things Like TheseThe Instigators and the upcoming Unstoppable and Kiss of the Spider-Woman (the latter two in which Lopez also stars).

She could also take some of his share for his now-infamous Dunkin’ commercials (in some of which she also appeared). Affleck and Damon produced the ads under their AE banner.

Similarly, Affleck could claim some of J.Lo’s earnings for movies like Shotgun Wedding, Atlas, Marry Me, The Mother and, perhaps most regrettably, This Is Me…Now: A Love Story (which Affleck produced and in which he also appeared). That’s not taking into account any earnings Lopez made from her Delola drinks line, as well as whatever she may have made from her fragrances (Glow still holds up!), skincare, cosmetics or clothing and accessory lines. She also has lucrative contracts with Intimissimi and Coach.

He may also be on the hook for any debt she may have incurred when she canceled her tour or for her self-financed film about their rekindled romance, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
