Actor Dylan O’Brien found himself in the spotlight as his brother Julz O’Brien took to Instagram comments to call him out for not celebrating their birthday, despite publicly discussing their experiences as a queer ally to garner fan support.
Dylan O’Brien was being interviewed by Vulture to promote his upcoming queer drama Ponyboi. During the interview, O’Brien stated, “I have a trans, nonbinary sibling and I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world.”
Though Dylan O’Brien has been open about his role as an ally, his relationship with his brother Julz has been reportedly strained, as his brother quickly took QueerTimes Instagram post about the interview to clear up some of the things in the post.
Establishing his pronouns, Julz commented “I’m actually trans masc and go by he/they pronouns 🫶🏼😌”
Julz then continued, “Kinda funny that this article didn’t ask me a single thing about myself? It’s about me and uses my photo. I’m not even tagged.”
Responding to one commenter, Julz said, “He also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. He didn’t check in when I had top surgery. He didn’t even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more 😏”
One responder saw this comment and wrote, “this is actually so sad to hear, i hope you had a lovely birthday last week regardless with people who care about you 🫶🏻,” to which Julz responded “Ty love 💗”
Julz also responded to a comment stating that it was Mental Health Awareness Month, “dawww someone has some big feelings 😂 little insecure are we? I know I’m crazy handsome but no need to be jealous. I’m sure you have your strengths too 😚”
Poniboy is described as unfolding over the course of Valentine’s Day in New Jersey, a young intersex sex worker must run from the mob after a drug deal goes sideways, forcing him to confront his past.
In addition to Poniboy, Dylan O’Brien has multiple projects in the pipeline with the upcoming wide release of Twinless. He also has Send Help and Anniversary in the works as well.
