Despite 2023’s critically acclaimed Dead Space remake, Electronic Arts’ sci-fi survival-horror franchise is on ice, thanks to lackluster sales of the game-of-the-year contender. But EA clearly hasn’t forgotten about Dead Space as a franchise, based on a new trailer for Battlefield 6‘s next season. It looks like Battlefield fans will be facing the enigmatic Markers from Dead Space in a new limited-time game mode coming to the first-person shooter.

Battlefield 6 season 5’s new trailer is ostensibly about the game’s new maps, which include a highly destructible Las Vegas Strip and Area 51. The expected chaos and destruction of a Battlefield trailer is on full display, as are teasers for what’s coming in season 5: six new weapons, two new vehicles, and a new free-to-play, faster-paced Battle Royale mode known as Rapid Royale.

It’s the final shot of Battlefield 6 season 5’s new trailer that will give starving Dead Space fans a morsel of hope. In it, we see two soldiers wearing Isaac Clarke-inspired armor and a menacing double-helix Marker looming behind them. EA teases that the mode is part of a sinister, limited-time Halloween event.

Hardcore Battlefield fans may already know what to expect, thanks to datamined details on the game’s Dead Space-inspired mode.

Battlefield’s new Dead Space homage explained

According to month-old leaks, the Dead Space limited-time event will send Battlefield 6 players to Area 51 for a PvE Rush-style mode. Rush, also known as Gold Rush, has been a feature in many Battlefield games since the original Bad Company. The mode typically involves two teams, Attackers and Defenders, trying to destroy or protect specific locations. The Dead Space version of that mode will supposedly see players fighting waves of “Marked Soldiers” as they attempt to destroy Marker Shrines. The mode will allegedly include a special event weapon as a Battle Pickup.

Players have also datamined two RIG suit skins, inspired by Isaac Clarke’s armor, and a trio of weapons that draw inspiration from Dead Space.

Battlefield 6 isn’t the first game in the franchise to acknowledge Dead Space. Previous releases, including Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield Hardline, have featured game modes and Easter eggs based on the sci-fi series. This time, however, there are much closer ties between the two brands: In 2024, Electronic Arts tasked the Dead Space remake team at Motive with aiding in development of the latest Battlefield.

Battlefield 6 is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. (So is 2023’s Dead Space.) Season 5 of Battlefield 6 kicks off on Oct. 13.
