LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 278
Don’t just watch a movie. Talk about it.
We say that a lot on The Plugged In Show. But why is talking important? Well, for starters, talking through a movie’s themes and issues can help you navigate some of those problems and put them in their place. Was your child unexpectedly scared of a particular cinematic scene? Talking about it can help her process it. Was your teen drawn to a problematic message found in a film? You won’t know unless you talk about it, and a nice level-headed discussion can help you guide his thoughts in a more productive direction.
But there’s more to talking through a film than just navigating its issues. Movies can be a fantastic catalyst to discuss really important thoughts and feelings, too. A family viewing of Inside Out 2 might open the door to a conversation about anxiety and peer pressure. Watching O Brother, Where Art Thou? with older teens could jump start a discussion about faith, destiny, pride and even great literature.
But how do you select the right movie? And how do you prime the pump for those discussions?
Adam Holz is joined by Bob Hoose and Bret Eckelberry for this fascinating conversation.
Then, I kick Adam out of the host’s chair and talk with Bret about a fun new Plugged In initiative: Christian Movie Madness. bracket. We’re asking you to vote for your favorite faith-based films and, ultimately, choose what you think is the greatest Christian flick of all time!
No pressure.
We’ll tell you everything you need to know about Christian Movie Madness. But hey, if you want to start voting, just click here. That’s right, you can vote this very second, if you want. And you know what? A few of the films in our bracket just might be a great pick for a family movie night, too!
And then, once you tell us your picks for the greatest Christian movies ever, talk to us about the episode, too. Have you ever found yourself having an enriching conversation with your family after a movie? What was it? Let us know on Facebook or Instagram. Send us an email (team@theshow.com). Leave us a voicemail (at The Plugged In Show homepage). Or just leave your thoughts below.
And be sure to join us next week, when we dive into the new season of The Chosen with The Chosen: The Last Supper. We’ll be hearing from creator Dallas Jenkins and members of the cast, so you won’t want to miss that!
