LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 280
Minecraft is one of the best-selling video games of all time, moving more than 300 million copies since being released in 2009. And it’s still going strong—maybe stronger than ever. A whopping 200 million players logged in to play the game over the last 30 days alone.
Now, the blocky sandbox builder has its sights set on the box office. A Minecraft Movie, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, opens on Friday, April 4th. Will Minecraft’s cultural cache translate into big business at the box office? Or will it bomb harder than a Creeper in a carefully crafted voxel hut? And what should parents be aware of if their kiddos are begging them to watch A Minecraft Movie?
Those are the questions we hope to answer on today’s podcast with our in-house crew of Minecraft master builders: Bob Hoose and Kennedy Unthank. Then later, Kennedy and I are joined by Jonathan McKee to chat about the best entertainment to watch with your family in the lead up to Easter.
And we’d love to hear from you, too. Have you (or your family members) played Minecraft? Are you planning to see A Minecraft Movie? What’s your favorite thing to watch on or in the lead up to Easter? Let us know through our Plugged In social channels—YouTube, Instagram and Facebook—or send us an email at team@theshow.com. You can also leave us a voice message on The Plugged In Show homepage or simply drop a comment below.
Then, be sure to check out next week’s show—we’ll be discussing The King of Kings, a new animated film that tells the story of Jesus Christ, as told by Charles Dickens.
