LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 290

In 2010, when Pixar was at the peak of its powers, Disney was seeing an animated resurgence with Tangled and Illumination Studios had rolled out a little offering called Despicable Me, DreamWorks entered the animated fray with How to Train Your Dragon. It turned out to be one of my favorite movies of the year.

Now DreamWorks has taken its cartoon and turned it into a full-fledged live-action film. And it brought back Dean DeBlois—who co-directed the original with Chris Sanders—to helm the remake, as well.

Kennedy Unthank reviewed the new movie for us. And he had an opportunity to talk with DeBlois. They discuss why DeBlois wanted to remake the film, and he shares his excitement about the movie’s Isle of Berk showing up in the Universal Orlando theme park.

And then we dive into a conversation about so-called “kidfluencers,” pinned to an intriguing (if problematic) Netflix documentary on the subject called Bad Influence. In an age when so many kids and teens aspire to be online influencers, this is an important conversation. And Kennedy, Emily Tsiao and Jonathan McKee have a fun time talking about it.

And you know who else could have a fun time talking about these subjects? You! Talk to us on YouTube, or Instagram, or Facebook (or hey, all three if you want). Send us a missive via team@theshow.com. Or leave us a voice mail at The Plugged In Show homepage.

And as always, thanks for listening!
