The Coen-verse is expanding on Netflix and marks the second major movie to be coming as part of a Universal Pay-1 window that’s been brought forward. Following the arrival of Drive-Away Dolls to the service a few years back, Ethan Coen’s latest solo directorial effort, Honey Don’t!, is now confirmed to be making its way to Netflix US in February.
The film, which features a loaded cast including Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Evans, was released in theaters last summer (August 2025) before enjoying an exclusive streaming window on Peacock. Now, thanks to the new “Pay-1B” output deal between Universal and Netflix (which officially kicked off this month with M3GAN 2.0 and is being followed by How To Train Your Dragon and the latest Jurassic World movie), the movie is hopping services.
We can confirm that Honey Don’t! will be available to stream on Netflix US starting Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026.
This release is part of the updated licensing structure for Universal live-action films. Previously, these movies would head to Prime Video after their initial Peacock run. However, as of 2026, and as we first reported, Netflix has taken over that window. That means you have until December 3rd, 2026, before the movie departs.
What is Honey Don’t! about?
Written by Ethan Coen and his wife/creative partner Tricia Cooke, the film is described as a “dark comedy neo-noir” set in the sun-baked, dusty landscape of Bakersfield, California.
It follows Honey O’Donahue, a private investigator who isn’t exactly great at her job. When she starts investigating the mysterious death of a young woman, she finds herself pulled into a bizarre conspiracy involving a local cult-like church, a sleazy preacher, and a disenchanted police officer.
The official synopsis reads:
“Honey O’Donahue (Margaret Qualley) is a private investigator in Bakersfield, California. When she witnesses a crime, she’s thrust into a violent and chaotic underworld where she crosses paths with a dangerous cult leader (Chris Evans) and a mysterious woman (Aubrey Plaza) who may be her only ally.”
It must be said that the movie picked up mixed reviews across the board from critics and audiences alike. It currently sits at a 45% on Rotten Tomatoes with the consensus reading, “Disparate parts and desperate measures spell defeat for Ethan Coen this time around in a romp that tries to cast a wide net but will ultimately leave audiences saying, Honey, don’t.”
Who is in the cast?
Ethan Coen has assembled another impressive ensemble for this quirky caper:
- Margaret Qualley (Maid) stars as the titular PI, Honey O’Donahue.
- Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus) plays a police officer who becomes entangled with Honey.
- Chris Evans (Knives Out) plays against type as the villainous, charismatic cult leader.
- Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
- Billy Eichner (Bros).
