According to the 2024 European Holiday Destination Index by Allianz Partners USA, a travel insurance and assistance provider, American tourists are increasingly considering Europe for their winter holidays. The index is derived from the analysis of more than 940,000 roundtrip flight itineraries departing from the U.S. between November 27, 2024, and January 5, 2025.
London, England, continues its reign as Americans’ top European winter destination, followed by Paris, France, Madrid, Spain, and Rome, Italy. The data also reveals a growing interest in Northern European destinations, with Dublin, Ireland, making its way into the top five and Amsterdam, Netherlands, maintaining its popularity during the off-season. Helsinki, Finland, made a significant leap in the rankings due to its winter attractions, such as the Northern Lights phenomenon.
German cities Frankfurt and Munich, along with Brussels, Belgium, and Venice, Italy, also saw an increase in their rankings. Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA, highlighted the importance of travel insurance to protect against potential issues such as lost baggage, weather-related delays, and medical emergencies abroad.
