Recent data from YouGov highlights the declining favourability of the United States in several Western European countries following Donald Trump’s re-election. The data suggests a drop in positive views towards the US, especially in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France, and the UK.

Recent data from YouGov, a British market research and data analytics firm, indicates a significant drop in favorable attitudes towards the US in Western European nations since President Trump’s election. Comparing the latest quarterly data with the last poll before Trump’s re-election reveals a decline in favorable attitudes towards the US by between six and 28 percentage points.

Denmark has the least positive view of the US, at only 20%, followed by Sweden at 29%. Only about one-third of people in Germany (32%), France (34%), and the UK (37%) now have a favourable view of the US. Italy and Spain are the most likely to have a favourable view, with still fewer than half of the people feeling this way, at 42% and 43%, respectively.

The data indicates the lowest figures for US favourability in Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and Italy since the inception of this survey. The article suggests that the decrease in the favorable opinion of the US is a result of Trump’s re-election and his initial actions as president.

Denmark, in particular, showed a 20-point drop in positive sentiment towards the US, largely due to Trump’s January suggestions that he might seize the autonomous Danish territory of Greenland. The article also reveals that more than half of the people in Britain (53%), Germany (56%), Sweden (63%), and Denmark (74%) now have an unfavorable opinion of the US.

This compares to Trump’s first term, noting that favourable opinions of the US also decreased at the beginning of Trump’s first term. However, European attitudes towards the US improved after the election of Joe Biden in November 2020.
