Europe’s Spring-Summer 2025 Travel Forecast: Spending More and Staying Longer

  • Despite a slight drop in overall travel intentions, Europeans are planning longer and higher-budget holidays, with 30% considering spending between €1,501–€2,500 per trip.
  • Interest in Traditional Southern destinations has declined by 8%, while alternative destinations and event-based travel are gaining popularity.

The ETC’s “Monitoring Sentiment for Intra-European Travel” Wave 21 report reveals that although overall travel intentions have decreased by 3% from the previous year to 72%, Europeans are planning longer holidays and are willing to spend more on their travel. Countries with the highest travel intentions include Poland, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy, whereas the French, Belgians, Austrians, Swiss, and Germans are least likely to travel.

The report highlights a shift in travel preferences. While Southern destinations remain popular, their interest has declined by 8%. On the other hand, Eastern European destinations are witnessing a 3% year-on-year increase in popularity. Europeans are also showing an increased interest in event-based travel.

Despite the overall lower travel intention, the number of Europeans planning to take three or more trips between April and September 2025 has risen by 6% compared to the same period in 2024. Also, 42% of travellers intend to stay longer, opting for holidays lasting 7–12 nights, representing an 11% increase from 2024.

The data suggests that travel remains a spending priority for many Europeans. A striking 30% of travellers plan to spend between €1,501 and €2,500 per trip, while 17% expect to spend more than €2,500. This increase in travel budgets is accompanied by a decrease in financial concerns, with worries over rising travel costs due to inflation dropping from 23% to 17%.

The report also notes a growing climate consciousness among European travellers. A significant 81% of Europeans indicate that the changing climate affects their travel plans, an increase of 7% from the previous year. The full report is available for download from the ETC’s corporate website.
