We’re just a day away from the global premiere of Ripple, a new emotional ensemble drama from Lionsgate Canada starring Ian Harding and Frankie Faison. Arriving in most Netflix regions on December 3rd, the series explores the invisible threads that connect strangers in New York City. Here is a comprehensive guide to the plot, cast, episode titles, and what to expect.
As we first reported last week, the series was initially bound for Hallmark+ but is following in the footsteps of The Hunting Wives in becoming a Netflix-first release (not a Netflix Original), presumably with the hope of getting renewed for a second season if there’s enough interest. The streamer has global rights to the show, unlike The Hunting Wives from Lionsgate Television, which has been rolling out slowly following its season 2 pickup.
The official synopsis reads, “Set in New York City, Ripple explores how seemingly small decisions can bring people together in unexpected ways. The series follows four strangers —Walter, Kris, Nate, and Aria— who have unknowingly crossed paths many times but never met. As they each face life’s challenges, their actions create a ripple effect that ultimately connects them. “Ripple” delivers a powerful message of hope: the best things often come after the storm, and no one is truly alone.
Who’s behind Ripple?
The 8-episode series, created by Michele Giannusa (The Dead Girls Detective Agency), operates on the premise that small, seemingly insignificant decisions can create a “ripple effect” that binds people together. The series is set against the backdrop of New York City, and it follows four strangers—Walter, Kris, Nate, and Aria—who have unknowingly crossed paths countless times but have never met.
The series is helmed by showrunner Joni Lefkowitz (New Girl, Jane the Virgin) and features sci-fi legend Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1, Supernatural) as an executive producer and director. The series features an original score by Joel Schwartz and Kristjan Bergey. The series is produced by Lionsgate Canada and distributed by Lionsgate Television.
In the cast are stars Frankie Faison (The Wire, The Rookie: Feds), Julia Chan (Saving Hope, Katy Keene), Ian Harding (Pretty Little Liars, Long Slow Exhale), and Sydney Agudong (Lilo & Stitch).
In a statement over a press release, show creator and executive producer, Michele Giannusa, said about the new show:
“We’ve all experienced that seemingly insignificant moment that changed it all. You know the one. The time you made that wrong turn. Or when you missed the train. Or that night you wanted to stay in, but you went out anyway. Something happened. Something you didn’t expect. And it changed everything.
It created a Ripple.
Our story begins with a single blue stone that cascades off a high-rise in New York City. Its plunge sets off an effect that binds four strangers and reaffirms the magic that infuses their journey. Walter, Kris, Nate, and Aria begin to build something none of them anticipated — a chosen family. Their relationships evolve not through grand gestures but through the messy, tender, funny, and undeniably human experiences that reveal who we become when someone truly sees us.
This theme grew from a very real moment for me. An accidental text message that arrived on an otherwise unremarkable day and shifted the trajectory of my life. From this experience, I built a world that explores how we move through grief, hope, and everything in between.
Set in my hometown, Ripple is a love letter to New York City. Its unpredictability, its rough edges, and its capacity to bring strangers together. Finding the people who show up, who stay, who make the world feel less impossible. It’s a reminder that even in the quietest corners, we are never as alone as we think — and sometimes all it takes is a single ripple to lead us exactly where we’re meant to be.”
