Set to the backdrop of the haunted Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies, this psychological horror novel Time calls “spine-chilling” will surely keep you up all night, both from turning the pages as you read, and tossing and turning in bed long after you are done. It is definitely the kind of story that stays with you long after you finish it.

In the book, the main character Jack Torrance is a recovering alcoholic and writer takes up a residence at the Overlook Hotel to work as a caretaker during the winter. Along with his wife, Wendy, and son, Danny, the family lives at the hotel. Danny has psychic “shining” abilities and the family becomes snowbound. Soon thereafter, supernatural forces begin to grip Jack, twisting his sanity into something sinister, eventually turning him against Wendy and Danny.
