You’d think that Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) being behind bars would be the answer to all of Gabi’s (Shanola Hampton) problems on Found. But it turns out even prison can’t stop Sir from haunting his former victim.

Gabi is doing her best to put distance between the two of them and move on with her life, but Sir isn’t willing to let her go. In Thursday’s episode, Sir purposefully picked a fight with a guard and earned a concussion in hopes that it would bring Gabi to his side.

“He’s looking for any sort of connection between him and Gabrielle,” Gosselaar told Parade in a recent interview. “Even if she were to come see him in the infirmary, that’s enough for him. That’s another breath that he can take. He’ll take any sort of presence of Gabrielle.”

The fight didn’t bring Gabi to his cell like he hoped. But that doesn’t mean that Sir has given up when it comes to the object of familial fantasies.

“I don’t think that he’s under any illusion that she’s going to say, ‘Oh gosh, he didn’t do anything. Please release him.’ And they are going to walk off into the distance,” Gosselaar elaborated. “The concussion, or getting beat up, was just to get her in the room, just to get her to talk to him, I think we’ll see that over the course of the season.”

Even though Gabi didn’t go to the prison when she heard about the fight, she’s also struggling with the lingering connection to Sir. She had the option to block his calls from prison, but couldn’t bring herself to press the button. Her hesitance to cut all ties with Sir had her seeking out Ethan (Lee Osorio) for help unpacking why she can’t cut Sir out of her life.

“There’s a connection that’s deeper for her. There is something for her that she feels is broken that doesn’t allow her to block him,” Hampton explained to Parade. She appreciates that the show is being realistic to Gabi’s psychological struggle. “I think it’s so important to show that part of a person when they are in a vicious, toxic cycle and how hard it is to break it. That is the true humanity behind these things and these kinds of relationships in your life. It takes a long time to get them out of your system.”

While Gabi goes to therapy, Sir is going to continue trying to maneuver his way into M&A cases so the team knows that he hasn’t gone away.

“I think he’s just trying to solidify his worth to the M&A team. It’s that, ‘Hey guys, still over here. Still working the cases. I can still help out,'” Gosselaar posited. “Trying to find someone is all about time, right? If he can show them that his goods are needed, then he can stay in the picture.”

Will Gabi ever be able to let him go if he’s constantly worming back into her life?

Find out as Found continues Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
