Scheduled to open this autumn, Market Budapest will bring together the best chefs and restaurants from all over Hungary’s capital and beyond, all under one roof.
Eleven award-winning and emerging local restaurateurs will be offering the crème de la crème of the city’s food scene, and we recently announced the first four.
Anyukám Mondta is bringing traditional Italian flavours and family recipes, Pingrumba a taste of the East and 101 Bistro modern Taiwanese cuisine, while Szaletly will be serving the finest examples from the contemporary Hungarian kitchen.
Now, a further four restaurants have officially joined the roster – here’s what they’re bringing to the table.
CANTEEN
Kicking things off is István Pesti, who earned two Michelin stars with his restaurant in Tata. Now, he has created a new concept exclusively for Market Budapest and rather than fine dining, traditional Hungarian flavours will be coming to Budapest in the shape of CANTEEN, whose menu includes lip-smacking dishes like goulash soup, Viennese veal schnitzel and chicken paprikash, all topped off with a classic, hearty apple pie.
Casa Christa
Also among the new names is Casa Christa, a restaurant showcasing the Balaton region, whose every plate evokes the atmosphere of Hungary’s bucolic lake getaway: sun-baked slopes, wine cellars and seasonal produce freshly sourced from local markets. For Hungarians, this is where to head for a hit of holiday nostalgia.

In addition to these perennial favourites, characteristic dishes of the Balaton Uplands will be served – think fresh fish, regional specialities and reimagined classics created from local ingredients.
Bigfish
Bigfish will bring fresh flavours and a seaside feel to the heart of Budapest as part of Market. Expect seasonal seafood specialities, freshly shucked oysters, British-style fish and chips, and premium-quality sushi directly sourced from the largest fish markets in Europe.
Tuning Burger
The fourth name? That’d be none other than Tuning Burger, once the title-holder of Hungary’s Best Burger. This place has raised the concept of hamburgers to a whole new level thanks to exceptional ingredients and flavours.
Patties are crafted from matured meat, artisanal buns and homemade sauces, and visitors will find market specialities like Hungarian grey cattle, Hortobágy Angus, Wagyu or Omaha meat. Favourites like the mango chutney, the truffle foie gras, the Umami burger and the award-winning Leicester burger will all be on the menu.
What to drink at Market Budapest
To wash all that down, Wines of Hungary will be representing the country’s 22 brilliant wine regions at one wine bar counter, with the expert help of sommeliers. We can expect to see big names as well as new varieties, so head here for a sip of an old favourite or some crisp, fresh drops. Cheers to that!
