If you’ve got waffles in your freezer, you might want to take a closer look. Hundreds of varieties of frozen waffles — including many sold in Quebec by major grocery chains like Walmart, Provigo, Maxi, Metro, Super C and IGA — are being recalled due to a potential listeria contamination.

Several of the products involved in this frozen waffle recall are sold under the house brands of major Canadian grocery stores like Walmart’s Great Value brand, Loblaw’s No Name label, Sobeys’ Compliments brand and Metro’s Selection label.

Affected flavours include everything from chocolate chip to blueberry, cinnamon, buttermilk and homestyle, so it’s important to double-check any frozen waffle packs you may have.

Listeria monocytogenes is a species of bacteria that can cause serious illness, especially in young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. So far, no one has reported getting sick, but it’s always better to be safe.

If you have any of the affected products, you should throw them out or return them to the store where you bought them. It’s also a good idea to check the official recall notice for the full list of products, as the recall affects multiple brands and flavours.

This voluntary recall was issued by TreeHouse Foods, Inc. after the issue was discovered during routine testing at the manufacturing facility. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency hasn’t issued a notice in its recall database yet, although TreeHouse Foods notes that the agency is aware of the recall.

While no confirmed illnesses have been reported linked to these products, it’s still important to stay informed and check your freezer to avoid any potential health risks.
