General Hospital shocked fans when news broke that actor Ryan Paevey would be returning to the soap, but now after much speculation, it has been teased just who he will be playing.

Co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten spoke with TV Insider sharing what is to come this fall on the soap opera. During this conversation they hinted that Paevey will be returning to the role of Nathan on the show.

This fall Paevey’s arrival is set to send shockwaves throughout Port Charles as one of the biggest questions to be revealed is just how Nathan is alive after being shot by his father Faison back in 2018.

Fans had been speculating who Paevey could be playing on social media, with various theories ranging from Nathan returning from the dead to Nathan’s brother Peter August returning in a Nathan mask to terrorize Port Charles.

As Parade previously reported, Paevey explained that this time around things were going to be different than his original run. Speaking to TV Guide Magazine the actor teased,  “We’ve got some fun stuff planned. I wouldn’t come back for something vanilla. It’s going to be a blast.”

But if Paevey is Nathan, as the writers are currently teasing, then the questions become where has he been after all of this time, and how has his time away changed him.

Nathan’s wife Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) is currently in a coma after having an unexplained medical emergency, will Nathan’s arrival wake her from her slumber? And how will her current partner Spinelli deal with this return?

Nathan also has various family members currently back in town. How will his mother Liesl, his sister Britt, and his son James all deal with his return back to town? Viewers will have to tune in to find out.

Who is Nathan West?

Nathan West was a part of Port Charles from December 30, 2013 through February 9, 2018. During that time the character quickly became a fan favorite in large part due to his relationship with Maxie Jones . The character was a police officer who protected his family at all costs. He died in the line of duty saving his wife Maxie from his father Faison, only to be shot by him and died in recovery.

Paevey makes his highly anticipated return later this month. Fans can watch the drama unfold as General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams weeknights on Hulu.
