Mattsson broke her silence on the exit while speaking to TV Insider. The actress admitted she was ready to spread her wings and teased that she has new projects in the works.

Leaving is bittersweet for Mattsson. She has nothing but fond memories of her time on General Hospital. One memory included giving credit to her co-star Donnell Turner, who helped her find her groove on the soap when she first started.

“I had my first scene ever with Donnell Turner [Curtis Ashford], and he was very helpful in teaching me how the scenes would be filmed. His calm and professional demeanor really helped me feel comfortable in the scene,” the soap star shared, while adding that pretty much everyone on General Hospital is helpful to the newbies.

Mattsson couldn’t speak about the ABC soap without mentioning her on-screen love interest, the late Johnny Wactor (Brando). Their love story will always be one of Mattsson’s favorite stories to tell.

“I’m particularly fond of all the love stories! I think her love with Brando [Corbin, Johnny Wactor] was so beautiful and pure,” she expressed.

Fans have been rooting for a Sasha and Michael pairing since Rory Gibson took over the role. Their hopes are dashed on that front for now, but Mattsson admitted she’s rooting for the pairing too.

However, that doesn’t mean she’s already planning a return as Sasha, even though Executive Producer Frank Valentini told her the door was always open.

The actress also shared a message to fans following her exit. After all, soaps would be nowhere without the fans, and Mattsson is beyond grateful for them.

“You guys are the best! I’m in awe of your commitment, and I’m so honored to have gotten to experience your love and support firsthand,” Mattsson spilled.

There’s no question the show won’t be the same without Sasha and Mattsson. Here’s hoping we see them back in Port Charles someday.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
