Georgia killings: Authorities search for suspect

Hampton, Georgia –
Georgia officials are searching for a man who was suspected of shooting dead three men and a woman in a suburban area south of Atlanta late at night on Saturday.
Hampton Police Chief James Turner told a news conference that Andre Longmore, 40, was armed and believed to be dangerous. The shooting occurred late Saturday morning at a subdivision in Hampton, a city of about 8,500.
Authorities released few details about the killings. Turner said detectives are investigating at least four crime scenes in the same neighborhood and close to each other. He said Longmore lives in the Hamptons but declined to comment on possible motives.
The suspect has fled more than five hours after the killing, and authorities have vowed to continue the search until he is taken into custody.
“We’re doing a thorough search in the general area and we’re expanding it a bit,” Turner told reporters.
Investigators also had their eye on a black GMC Acadia SUV that Longmore may have been driving.
Longmore does not appear to have given his phone number, and the Associated Press was unable to immediately locate a family member or lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims and said they were trying to notify their families.
Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandlett said his office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to Longmore’s arrest and prosecution.
He also addressed Longmore directly, saying, “We will hunt you down and detain you wherever you live. All the way.”
Located about 30 miles (48 km) south of Atlanta, Hampton is home to the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Georgia’s racetrack for NASCAR events.
Law enforcement agencies throughout the Atlanta area and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the search and investigation.
The shooting is the 31st mass murder of 2023 and has claimed at least 153 lives this year, according to a database maintained by the Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University.
