Michael Strahan has become a grandfather!

The proud father of four revealed the exciting news during the opening segment of Fox NFL Sunday on Sunday, Sept. 22. After some prompting by co-host Howie Long, Strahan went public with his exciting family update.

“Yes! I am a grandfather, everybody,” the Good Morning America co-host announced as he gave both fists an excited pump. The baby boy was born to his oldest daughter, 32-year-old Tanita, who Strahan said is doing “fantastic.”

While the former NFL player did not provide any specifics regarding when or where the baby was born, he did share one important detail: “Onyx is his name—that means ‘black,’” Strahan said.

As his Fox NFL Sunday co-hosts applauded the news, Strahan spoke a bit more about what the newest addition to his family means to him.

“It’s really special, because, you know, I know you guys have gone through this,” he said, gesturing to the other grandfathers on the panel of fellow football analysts, “and now I’m just happy to be able to join you in that club.”

Strahan, 52, shares Tanita with his first ex-wife, Wanda Hutchins. The two also share Strahan’s only son, 29-year-old Michael Jr. In addition to his two older children, Strahan shares 19-year-old twins Isabella and Sophia with his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli.

Strahan’s embrace of his new grandfather era follows months of strain for his family. Near the start of this year, Strahan and Isabella made a joint appearance on Good Morning America to share that the 19-year-old had been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, just weeks into her first semester of college in October 2023.

In the months that followed, Isabella provided updates on her treatment journey through posts on her vlog. After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, Isabella excitedly announced in mid-July that she was finally cancer free.
