Over two months after Trachtenberg’s passing, Meester broke her silence on the tragic situation in a new interview with Flaunt, calling the death of her former co-star and friend just “devastating.”

“She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her,” said Meester, who starred on Gossip Girl as the fan-favorite character Blair Waldorf. “It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”

Trachtenberg, who was also known for roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harriet the Spy, 17 Again and Ice Princess, was found dead in her Manhattan apartment on Feb. 26. She was discovered unconscious and unresponsive, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

While opening up about Trachtenberg’s tragic death, Meester, 39, expressed her appreciation for the longevity of Gossip Girl, as it can help keep the memory of the late actress alive.

“Now, I can see that [the show’s legacy] continues—in some ways, even more so than back then—to live on, which is incredible,” Meester added.
