Green, Jackson taken off Jays Major League roster

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have removed two right-handed pitchers from their major league roster ahead of Thursday’s season opener in St. Louis.

Chad Green has been placed on Toronto’s 60-day injured list as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery.

Toronto signed Jay Jackson to a one-year major league deal on Wednesday, but he was soon named a Triple-A affiliate of the Blue Jays in Buffalo, N.Y.

Green underwent surgery last summer and signed with the Blue Jays as a free agent on January 31.

Green had a 1-1 record with 16 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA in 15 innings pitched with the New York Yankees before surgery last season.

He has a 33-22 record, a 3.17 ERA, and 494 strikeouts (all seven MLB seasons in New York).

Jackson kept a clean sheet in 1 1/3 innings last season with the Atlanta Braves. He has a career 4.21 ERA over his four seasons with the San Diego Padres, the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants where he recorded 80 strikeouts.
