- Green Key Global has launched a new entry-level sustainability solution called Green Key Ready, which is aimed at hotels in the early stages of their sustainability journey.
- The solution was developed with hospitality leaders, industry partners, and sustainability experts to address the need for an accessible and affordable sustainability framework.
Green Key Global, a sustainability certification body for hotels, has announced the launch of a new program, Green Key Ready. The initiative is designed to provide an accessible and cost-effective first step towards full Green Key Eco-Rating certification for hotels beginning their sustainability journey or those with limited resources.
The program was introduced a year after the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) united to co-own and operate Green Key Global, aiming to advance sustainability in the hospitality industry.
Green Key Ready is a questionnaire based on sustainability fundamentals and resources to help prepare properties for certification. It is a stepping stone to the full Green Key Eco-Rating certification, making sustainability more achievable and accessible.
Anick Levesque, Managing Director of Green Key Global, stated, “Sustainability is no longer an option—it’s an expectation.” Levesque believes the launch of Green Key Ready resulted from the momentum gained over the past year to better serve hotels at every stage of their sustainability journey.
The program was developed with hospitality leaders, industry partners, and sustainability experts. It addresses the need for a structured yet accessible and affordable sustainability framework for properties just beginning their environmental journey with resource constraints.
Rosanna Maietta, President and CEO of AHLA, referred to Green Key Ready as an “essential tool” that helps hotels of all sizes integrate sustainability into their operations, meeting guest expectations and driving industry-wide progress.
Similarly, Beth McMahon, President and CEO of HAC, called Green Key Ready a “game-changer for sustainability certification,” as it removes barriers for hotels ready to take action by providing a structured, affordable, and accessible starting point.
The program also supports hotel brands and management companies looking to scale sustainability initiatives across their portfolios. With Green Key Ready, brands can simplify sustainability onboarding for properties, drive greater ESG engagement, and establish a clear pathway to full Green Key Eco-Rating Certification.
Enrollment in Green Key Ready is now open.
