If you’re eligible for the GST/HST Credit, a small financial boost might soon be heading your way.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will begin issuing the next round of payments starting next week, giving a bit of relief to low- and modest-income Canadians.

The GST/HST Credit is a tax-free quarterly payment that helps offset the goods and services taxes you pay throughout the year. The July installment is the first for the new benefit year, and if you’ve already filed your 2024 tax return, there’s nothing else you need to do — the CRA will calculate your payment and send it automatically.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Who’s eligible for the GST/HST Credit?

To qualify, you must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes and at least 19 years old. You can also be eligible if you’re under 19 and have a spouse, common-law partner, or child. The amount you receive depends on your family income and household size, based on your most recent tax return.

For this payment cycle, it’s your 2024 return that counts.

How much can people receive?

For the new benefit period (July 2025 to June 2026), here are the maximum total amounts you could receive:

  • $533 for a single person
  • $698 for a couple (this includes $165 for your spouse or partner)
  • $184 for each child under 19

The total amount is divided into four equal quarterly payments, starting with July 4.

As an example, a single parent with two kids and an income of $35,000 would get a quarterly payment of about $225 — which works out to $900 over the year.

People can visit the GST/HST credit income levels webpage, along with the GST/HST credit payments chart, to determine if they are eligible to receive the credit for the 2024 base year. You can also use the child and family benefits calculator to get an estimate of your credit.

When can I expect my GST/HST Credit payment?

The next GST/HST Credit payments will be issued on July 4, with future payments made every three months. The CRA typically deposits them by the fifth day of July, October, January, and April.

Is the GST/HST Credit taxable?

Nope — it’s completely tax-free and won’t reduce or affect your other government benefits or credits. It’s meant to help cover some of the taxes you’ve already paid, and it won’t impact any other benefits or credits you get.

To make sure you keep receiving the GST/HST Credit, just file your taxes on time each year. For more info, you can visit the CRA’s website.
