Han Dong serves Global News with libel notice over foreign interference report – National
Han Dong’s attorney told Global News and its parent company Corus Entertainment after news outlets published claims that Toronto lawmakers had spoken to Chinese diplomats about delaying the release of two Canadians. I sent you a notice of defamation.
Attorney Mark Polley has responded to Global News for publishing what he described as “false, malicious, irresponsible and defamatory statements” about Mr. Don, now an independent member of the Don Valley North. He told News he was demanding a “full apology and retraction.”
Global said last week, citing unidentified security sources, that Mr Dong told Chinese diplomats in February 2021 that the release of Michael Kovrig and Michael Speiber, who were detained in China, would benefit the federal Conservative Party. He claims that he told him that it would bring about
The news outlet also published allegations that Dong benefited from foreign intervention in China in his successful bid to become a liberal candidate to run for office in 2019.
Canadian Press has not independently verified the allegations against Don, which has not yet filed a complaint in court.

Spokespeople for Global News and Corus Entertainment said they could not comment because both companies have received defamation notices, but added that Global News is governed by a strict set of journalism principles and practices.
In a statement, Rishma Gobani said, “We are very concerned about the public interest and legal responsibility of this important accountability report.
Canadian news outlets have not independently verified the allegations against Don.
A written statement from Paulie says Don wants his name cleared.
“Mr. Don respects and supports the important role that responsible journalism plays in a free and democratic society. ,it says. “He voted in the House of Representatives for an open inquiry into foreign election interference because he believes the truth should be exposed.”
