Hate crimes unit investigating assault on Sikh international student

Kelowna, British Columbia –
The RCMP of Kelowna, BC has confirmed that the BC Hate Crime team has participated in an investigation into an attack on an international student in the city.
A statement from the Kelowna Detachment said a general investigative team is leading the file and is looking for footage from around the bus station where the March 17 assault occurred.
A suspected group has been identified, but no arrests have been made, police said.
The reason for the attack and related details have yet to be determined, and the 21-year-old student is being supported by The Mounties’ Victim Services Unit.
The RCMP has released few details of the assault, but the victim was hit from behind after getting off a bus late Friday night.
Constant Mike Della Paorella said in a statement that the student was assaulted and then released after being treated for various injuries at a hospital.
