Health Canada has recalled several cleaning products and supplies sold across Canada that could pose a serious health and safety risk to Canadian consumers.

The consumer product recall was published by the federal health agency on July 18 and is currently being removed from the marketplace due to improper labelling and potential burn hazards.

Health Canada says the Kao cleaning products do not meet the labelling and child-resistant packaging requirements of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

Furthermore, this chemical product can cause burns to the eyes or skin. Without child-resistant packaging, there is a risk of accidental exposure, which could result in severe illness, injury, or even death.

As of July 4, 2024, the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Per the recall warning page, the company reported that 795 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between April 2024 and July 2024. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Kao products and dispose of them according to municipal hazardous waste guidelines.

As for the BISSEL brand Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaner, Health Canada indicated that the cleaning item is being removed from shelves as steam or hot water may escape from the recalled Steam Shot™ Handheld Steam Cleaner while heating or during use, posing a burn hazard.

As of June 4, 2024, the company has received 14 reports of incidents in Canada, and 12 reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 169 reports of incidents and 145 reports of injuries, Health Canada said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Steam Shot™ Handheld Steam Cleaner and contact BISSELL to receive either an $82 credit to be used towards a Canada.BISSELL.com purchase or a $55 refund.
