Heels‘ renewal hopes got an unexpected boost this week with popular wrestler CM Punk weighing in on his hopes for getting the series renewed for a season 3 at Netflix and his own personal efforts to make that reality. We haven’t done a deep dive into the Netflix season 3 renewal chances yet, but are they realistic? Let’s take a look.

In case you missed it, Netflix acquired the streaming rights to the Starz Original series Heels in April 2024. Both seasons 1 and 2 were made available on Netflix in the United States (no other region has picked it up since) in September 2024. THR, who was first to report the pickup, said earlier in the year that the license came with the option of possibly extending the show for a third season, which Starz had recently renewed.

Since that addition, all has gone quiet. There’s chatter on social media, but beyond that, no news on Heels season 3.

That leads us to a new interview with CM Punk, who spoke to Deadline about a wide range of topics on April 28th. Among the topics discussed, CM Punk spoke about his current acting career and brought up the possibility of the third season, “I typically do Monday Night Raw live on Netflix every week,” the wrestler told the outlet, “But if I need to dip out for two weeks to shoot an independent film, I can always do that. We’re trying to petition Netflix to do a third season of Heels. I have two projects coming down the line that I’m very excited about. One is the TV show Revival that will air on Syfy, and a really, really fun movie called Night Patrol, written and directed by Ryan Prows. I don’t want to give away too much but it’s night patrol, LAPD, Bloods, Crips, vampires.”

That’s given some renewed hope for a season 3, but will it happen?

How well did Heels perform on Netflix after it was released?

Here’s where I’m going to have to become a bit of a party pooper. Its renewal chances seem exceedingly slim based on the performance of seasons 1 and 2 so far.

Following the two seasons landing on Netflix, it missed the US daily top 10s entirely and the global top 10s for that week, so we need to look at the Netflix Engagement Reports to see how well it performed.

And the answer? Not great. Now, obviously, you have to count for the fact that the show is only available in one region, but still, the results speak for themselves:

  • Heels Season 1 ranked as the 2,579th most-watched show for the second half of 2025, picking up 5.6 million hours watched and 700,000 views.
  • Heels Season 2 was the 3,125th most-watched, with 3.8 million hours watched and 500,000 views.

If we look back at other revivals in Netflix history, they’d all had a proven track record and a groundswell of viewership before Netflix stepped in and pulled the trigger on a new season. Manifest is perhaps the most prominent example, having been added to Netflix US and spent weeks in the top 10, pulling in ridiculous viewership. That was enough for Netflix to save the series from NBC’s cancellation, bringing it back for a final expanded season.

Heels isn’t alone in putting its hopes on Netflix to get a renewal, having been initially canceled elsewhere. Warrior is a recent example where Netflix picked up the license for seasons 1-3 in hopes of bringing it back for season 4. Although it did relatively well, people attached to the show later in the year found out that renewal hopes were over. The same also applies to the other Max series, Scavengers Reign, which was hoping to get a season 2 at Netflix, but the team ruled it out several months after being added. Halo is the most recent example, with fans hoping Netflix will step in after Paramount canceled it, but it doesn’t look good.

Netflix holds the streaming rights in the United States for at least two years. Both seasons, therefore, are currently set to stay on Netflix in the US through September 15, 2026.
