Orlando won big at the Michelin Guide Awards ceremony last night. Sorekara Japanese is the second restaurant in Florida to earn two stars from the Michelin Guide. The first restaurant to earn the two stars was Miami’s L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in 2022.
The awards ceremony was held at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort last night, where the winners of the coveted stars for Florida were announced. Four additional restaurants won one-star designations, including Itamae Ao in Miami, Chef’s Counter at MAASS in Fort Lauderdale, Konro in West Palm Beach, and Ômo by Jônt in Orlando. Two new Michelin Green Stars were awarded to Miami restaurants EntreNos and Stubborn Seed for their efforts in environmental sustainability. 36 new restaurants were given the Bib Gourmand distinction.
The guide is seen by many as the global standard of restaurant reviews with its up to three-star rating system, with one-star considered a “very good restaurant in its category,” two-star considered “worthy of a detour,” and three-star deemed a “special journey.” There is also the Bib Gourmand status, an unstarred category given to high-caliber restaurants that serve a two-course meal for around $50 a person.

Miami’s stars

There were many firsts at the ceremony last night
- In a first, Michelin Guide announced it will now cover the full state of Florida for awards next year. Gr Fort Lauderdale, the Palm Beaches, and St. Pete-Clearwater were new additions for award consideration this year. The areas joined Gr Miami, Orlando, and Tampa in the guide.
- Sorekara Japanese in Orlando won two Michelin stars for the first time, making it only the second restaurant in Florida with the distinction.
- And for the first time, Michelin ceremonies around the country have not been pouring Champagne during the celebrations, especially worth noting since the Guide is French. Instead, Italian sparkling wine, Franciacorta, has been the bubbles of choice. The region sponsors the Sommelier of the Year Awards for the guide — Jacqueline Pirolo of Macchialina in Miami won the honor in Florida last night.
Franciacorta producers poured at the ceremony of note are Ricci Cubastro, home to the Franciacorta Wine Museum; family-owned and female-run Fratelli Berlucchi, the producer of which can be found lounging in Palm Beach often; organically-farmed Castello Bonomi; and Ferghettina with its unmistakably unique triangular-shaped bottle (the second and third bottles pictured below). Franciacorta is in a three-year partnership with Michelin U.S. until next year.
