As route changes, replacement buses and other disruptions continue along select TTC lines in Toronto, there are thankfully a few construction projects that are wrapping up in the coming weeks, bringing with them a return to regular service.

Transit riders along the waterfront, Bathurst Street, and in parts of North York can look forward to the end of some work along the 509 Harbourfront, 511 Bathurst, and at Lawrence West Station in January.

As the commission detailed in a post on Thursday, the overhaul of overhead wiring along the first two lines is expected to finish mid-month, meaning streetcars can resume their regular journeys.

For the 509, this means streetcars will take over for the replacement buses that have been running in lieu between Union Station and Exhibition Loop since September 3. And on the 511, streetcars that have detouring along Queens Quay since late November will go back to their regular programming, operating seamlessly between Bathurst Station and Exhibition Loop.

The ongoing rehabilitation of the Lawrence Avenue West Allen Expressway Overpass at Lawrence West station is set to conclude even earlier in the month, meaning the 52 Lawrence West, 59 Maple Leaf, 952 Lawrence West Express, 124 Sunnybrook and 11C Davisville routes will be able to once again use the hub’s bus bays starting January 5.

Partial closures of the bays began last March, and as work continues at the station, a handful of other bus lines will still experience some revised routing that the TTC says “is required to accommodate continued Easier Access construction” at the terminal.

A new Line 2 Accessibility Shuttle route between Kipling and High Park, called the 149 Etobicoke-Bloor, will also come into effect on January 5, as well as a 13A Avenue Road and 97C Yonge bus schedule extension until 2 a.m. “to connect customers to the areas around Museum, Summerhill, Rosedale, College and King stations while work continues to install elevators at these stations.”

January 5 also marks the start of a few other minor service adjustments — including schedule changes along key lines like the 501 Queen, 505 Dundas, 506 Carlton and 511 Bathurst — with the new schedules slated to come online on the day of. Commuters can learn more on the TTC’s website.

And, finally, the Warden Station bus terminal will close its doors for three entire years starting on Sunday as part of the Warden Station Revitalization Project. This also sadly meant the closure of tenured shops like Bakery on the Go at the end of November.
