November 11th marks Remembrance Day, a time to pay tribute to Canada’s past heroes. In Toronto, residents are invited to commemorate the sacrifices made and the people who did so by participating in events happening around the city.

From touching ceremonies to flag displays, there’s no shortage of ways to observe Remembrance Day in Toronto.

The Remembrance Run to Remember

Remember those who served and sacrificed for Canada at the Remembrance Run.

The Run to Remember is an event welcoming runners ranging from competitive to recreational.

All proceeds from the 5 KM run go to the Royal Canadian Legion. 

Reserve your spot ahead of time to guarantee your attendance.

When: November 10th, 2024, beginning at 9:00 AM

Cost: $27.96 per 5 KM runner

Toronto Civic Remembrance Day Services

Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held at a selection of locations across the city on November 11th, 2024.

The Toronto Old City Hall Cenotaph will have its ceremony at 10:45 AM as well as the Scarborough War Memorial, East York Civic Centre’s Memorial Gardens, Etobicoke Civic Centre’s Cenotaph, North York’s York Cemetery Cenotaph and York Civic Centre’s Cenotaph.

Fort York National Historic Site’s ceremony is slightly earlier at 10:40 AM.

When: November 11th, 2024, beginning at 10:45 AM or 10:40 AM
Where: All Civic Remembrance Day service locations
Cost: Free

Toronto’s two-minute silence

On the 11th minute of the 11th day of the 11th month, the City of Toronto will pause for two minutes.

This may include pulling over your vehicle (if it is safe to do so) or just remaining silent where you are.

Toronto Zoo 39th Remembrance Day Ceremony

The Toronto Zoo will hold a special ceremony on Remembrance Day.

“Veterans and the public are invited to join in remembering and honouring the many wartime sacrifices that Canadians have made for their country,” shares Toronto Zoo.

Complimentary admission and parking are supplied for Veterans and uniformed service members (Armed Forces, Police, Fire and Paramedic Services). The rest of the public can get 50% off admission to attend the ceremony.

Where: Waterside Theatre at Toronto Zoo, 2000 Meadowvale Rd
Cost: Free for Veterans & uniformed service members, 50% off admission for the general public

Operation Raise a Flag

Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, Canada’s largest care facility for Veterans, will honour and show a display of gratitude called Operation Raise a Flag.

“More than 30,000 flags will be planted across Sunnybrook’s Bayview campus, creating a powerful tribute to the hundreds of Veterans residing at the Centre.”

People across Canada can participate in Operation Raise a Flag by making a gift and sending a personal note of thanks to the Veterans at Sunnybrook with all proceeds supporting the continued care of Canadian heroes.
