Spring is in the air here in Calgary, and with these warmer and sunnier days comes Easter right around the corner.

This year, the Easter long weekend will start with Good Friday on April 18 and go through to Easter Monday on April 21.

If you’ve got some big plans for the long weekend, you might want to consider what’s open and closed around the city. Different areas will be celebrating on different days, so you’ll definitely want to plan ahead.

Calgary Public Library

Library locations across Calgary will be closed all day on Good Friday, April 18.

City of Calgary services

All city landfills will be open on Good Friday and Easter Monday but will be closed on Easter Sunday. For a full list of locations, visit the City’s website.

Buses, C-Trains, and On Demand will operate on a Sunday level of service on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

On-street parking is free on Good Friday. The Impound Lot and CPA Contact Centre will be closed on Good Friday.

Grocery stores

Grocery and liquor stores across the city are generally open for Easter; however, some may have adjusted hours. We advise checking with your favourite location to confirm operations.

Canada Post

Canada Post will be closed for Good Friday and Easter Monday. There will be no collection or delivery of mail on those days.

Malls

  • CF Chinook Centre (open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Good Friday and Good Sunday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Easter Monday)
  • The CORE Shopping Centre (open noon to 5 p.m. on Good Friday and closed on Easter Sunday)
  • Southcentre Mall (open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Good Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Easter Monday)

Leisure Centres

All indoor pools, fitness centres and arenas (except for public swimming at Village Square Leisure Centre and Southland Leisure Centre on Good Friday and Easter Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) will be closed on April 18 and 20.

Calgary Recreation will have modified hours of operation; visit calgary.ca/recreation for more information.

The Calgary Soccer Centre will also be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

If you’re looking for things to do over the Easter weekend, there are some great activities open around Calgary. The Wilder Institute and Calgary Zoo are hosting its annual Easter Eggstravaganza all weekend long with treat stations, holiday-themed games, and more.
