Hilton Grand Vacations Inc. (NYSE:HGV) announced it has purchased the Citadines Kyoto Karasuma Gojo in Kyoto, Japan. This will be the company’s first property in Kyoto and its third in Japan.

“Building on our history as the leading vacation ownership company in Japan, we’re thrilled to expand our portfolio to offer even more vacation experiences to our members,” says Mark Wang, CEO of Hilton Grand Vacations. “Kyoto is a world-famous cultural destination for travelers, filled with history, heritage and elegance, and we’re excited to engage with new members and guests seeking cultural immersion.”

Kyoto Prefecture saw a record 75 million tourists in 2023, a 13% increase from the previous year, putting it on par with Orlando’s 74 million annual visitors. The city is expected to see even more visitors in 2024.

HGV plans to renovate the property into 63 one-bedroom timeshare units with kitchens. The property will include a fitness center and is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and historic landmarks.

Renovations are expected to start in the second quarter of 2025 and finish in the first quarter of 2026. Sales are projected to begin in mid-2025.

This project is part of HGV’s efforts to grow its presence in Japan. The company has more than 72,000 members in Japan and has seen steady growth since 2012. In addition to popular international destinations like Hawaii, this new property will appeal to members seeking domestic options.

HGV’s most recent Japan property, The Beach Resort Sesoko, opened in October 2021, following its first property, The Bay Forest Odawara, in 2018.
