Marcus Hotels & Resorts has announced that the west wing of the Hilton Milwaukee will be transformed into The Marc Hotel, an independent 175-room property. The opening is scheduled for early 2026. The hotel will be located in downtown Milwaukee, directly connected to the Baird Center, providing a convenient option for convention attendees and travelers.

The decision to establish The Marc Hotel follows a strategic evaluation of the Hilton Milwaukee’s renovation plans. The new hotel aims to support the city by maintaining the current hotel room supply, which is essential for attracting larger conventions to the Baird Center. The conversion of the west wing into The Marc Hotel avoids further investment in renovating the existing guestrooms and addresses concerns about potential taxpayer-subsidized rooms entering the market.

The Marc Hotel’s name reflects the historical significance of the Hilton Milwaukee. Originally opened in 1928 as the Schroeder Hotel, it was acquired by Marcus Corporation in 1972 and renamed the Marc Plaza Hotel. The hotel adopted the Hilton brand in 1995, but the Marc Plaza name remains well-known. The new hotel will continue this legacy.

Limited modifications will be made to the hotel’s ground floor to create a main entrance for The Marc Hotel on North 6th Street. The anticipated opening is set for January 2026.
