Hilton has announced plans to increase its presence in Africa by opening over 100 new hotels, aiming to triple its current footprint on the continent.
Hilton has revealed its strategy to significantly expand its operations in Africa. The company plans to open more than 100 hotels in the coming years, which is expected to create approximately 18,000 jobs. The company currently operates 63 hotels in Africa and aims to increase this number to over 160.
In Angola, Hilton will debut with three properties: Hilton Luanda Hotel Godinho, Hilton Garden Inn Luanda Airport, and DoubleTree by Hilton Cabinda Futila Residences. These hotels are scheduled to open between 2026 and 2028 and offer a combined total of over 700 rooms.
In Benin, Hilton plans to open Hilton Cotonou in 2028, featuring 233 guest rooms and suites. This project will enhance Benin’s capacity to host international conferences and events.
Hilton is also re-entering Madagascar with two properties, Hilton Antananarivo and Hilton Garden Inn Antananarivo, set to open in 2027 and 2028, respectively. These hotels will have 290 guest rooms.
In Nigeria, Hilton will expand with several new properties, including The Wave Hotel Abuja Jabi, Curio Collection by Hilton, Hilton Lagos Ikeja, and Hilton Garden Inn in Kano. These hotels are expected to open between 2026 and 2029, adding approximately 393 rooms to Hilton’s portfolio in Nigeria.
In Ghana, Hilton will open Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport in 2026, offering 170 guest rooms. This hotel will be part of a mixed-use development near Kotoka International Airport.
Hilton’s expansion in Ethiopia includes the opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Adama and DoubleTree by Hilton Dire Dawa in 2028. These will be the first internationally branded hotels in these cities.
Hilton will re-enter the Tanzanian market with Canopy by Hilton Zanzibar The Burj, which is expected to open in 2027. The hotel will feature 162 guest rooms and suites.
In North Africa, Hilton plans to triple its portfolio in Egypt and expand in Morocco. The company has also signed an agreement for DoubleTree by Hilton Fes Golf in Morocco, set to open in 2028 with 109 guest rooms.
Recent openings include Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof in South Africa and DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport in Ethiopia. Hilton also plans to open Hilton Accra Cantonments in Ghana later this year.
