Hoda Kotb Distracted by Jenna Bush Hager's New Hairstyle During 'Today' Segment

On the Sept. 17 episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, the two women were chatting about trending topics when Hoda Kotb got distracted by Jenna Bush Hager‘s unique new hairstyle.

Kotb interrupted their conversation about kids sleeping in their parents’ beds to say, “I love your headband,” redirecting their chat to a completely new topic.

She looked more closely at the hairstyle, asking, “Is that a headband, or did someone really braid your hair?”

Bush Hager took the opportunity to tease Kotb, first saying, “It’s a braid,” before considering, “It could be faux. I don’t know. It could be faux or it could be real.”

As the studio audience laughed, Bush Hager turned to Kotb and allowed her to find out for herself: “Get in there and see if you can tell.”

After getting up close and personal with the hair accessory, Kotb realized that it was a hairband, with her co-host explaining the surprising style: “I’m trying to do some new things… I’m trying to experiment.”

Kotb commended Bush Hager on her willingness to experiment, saying, “I have to hand it to you—I like it. It’s cool.” The braided headband is a new look for Bush Hager, who usually wears her hair down in soft waves.

During a segment last fall, the 42-year-old tried out a bunch of new hairstyles on-air with the help of celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and more. 

Appleton completed seven different hairstyles on Bush Hager in only one hour, including a glamorous blowout with extensions, with Bush Hager commenting, “I’m looking at myself and I don’t recognize myself, and that’s a weird thing.”

A few of the other looks included a soft ponytail with curtain bangs in the front, a top knot bun, and Lopez’s classic half-up, half-down style.
