Travelers in 2025 are predicted to favor longer, immersive vacations and off-peak trips, with budget and climate considerations playing a significant role.

According to Eleanor Moody, Travel Expert and Spokesperson at HomeToGo, travelers seek meaningful experiences through extended vacations and unique, hands-on adventures. Budget consciousness and climate awareness also influence travel plans, with more people opting for off-peak travel to avoid crowds and extreme weather conditions.

HomeToGo’s survey of 800 Americans indicates that 27% of U.S. travelers are planning longer, more extravagant vacations in 2025 compared to 2024. The average stay is expected to stretch to 22 days, with travelers venturing an average of 1,603 miles to their destinations. Hawaii and Arizona are the most sought-after states for spring and summer getaways, while Michigan and Maine are preferred for fall and winter getaways.

Budget-friendly trips are another trend, with 36% of all travelers prioritizing cost in 2025. Destinations with affordable accommodation, such as Japan, Thailand, and Costa Rica, are trending, according to HomeToGo’s data.

Experiential adventures are also trending, with 21% of American travelers prioritizing a destination’s experiential offering. Travelers plan vacations centered around food and drink experiences, live music performances, nature wonders, skill workshops, and wellness retreats.

The fourth trend is ‘Bae-cations,’ with 50% of respondents planning to travel with their partners in 2025. Island escapes such as Sri Lanka, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Sint Maarten are particularly popular for spring and summer. At the same time, Malta, Bermuda, Barbados, and Aruba are in demand for fall and winter.

The fifth trend is ‘Delaycations,’ or off-peak travel, chosen by 45% of respondents to avoid crowds and stretch their budgets. Climate considerations also drive this trend, with 35% of travelers, especially millennials, adjusting their plans to avoid extreme weather. Destinations offering year-round warmth, like Lanzarote, Bali, Puerto Vallarta, and Playa del Carmen, are among the top choices.
