Jamie Foxx had a difficult year in 2023, but fortunately, his humor makes it a little easier to handle.

Despite an experience with a serious medical complication that left him hospitalized for weeks last April, the Burial actor managed to keep things light while celebrating at his daughter Corinne’s wedding.

Corinne, who married Joe Hooten in the backyard of her dad’s Thousand Oaks, Calif. home last month, recently opened up about having Jamie, 56, present for the milestone moment after going through the health scare—and unsurprisingly, she said he was cracking some of his best jokes.

“My dad gave a 22-minute improvised speech,” Corinne, 30, revealed in a new interview with Vogue published Thursday, Oct. 3. “It was half comedy special and half speech—people were falling out of their chairs laughing.”

Jamie’s humor seemed to be the perfect way to provide some comic relief on Corinne’s big day, as emotions were likely already running high, especially following her dad’s recent health issues.

After his comical speech, Jamie danced to a song he wrote for Corinne called, “Heaven,” which is something she “always knew” she would dance to with her dad at her wedding.

“It is such a special song for us,” she added.

Elsewhere in the interview, Corinne said there “wasn’t a dry eye in the house” when her father walked her down the aisle during the Sept. 21 nuptials.

“It was incredibly special, considering his health scare last year,” she said. “I walked down to a strings version of ‘Georgia On My Mind’ by Ray Charles,” which was apparently a song choice with a very special meaning behind it.

“My dad won his Oscar for playing [Charles] in 2005,” Corinne explained. “At 10 years old, I was his plus one and got to share that special moment with him.”

Corinne’s husband also said the moment he saw his bride walking down the aisle with the Django Unchained actor, he couldn’t help but tear up, too.

“I didn’t expect to cry up there, but the moment I saw Corinne and Jamie, who was also emotional, walking down that aisle, all bets were off,” he recalled. “I was in awe of her beauty and inspired by Jamie’s example of fatherhood. During Jamie’s health scare, the whole family went through and overcame so much. Seeing all of us make it to this moment just opened the floodgates. It was beautiful and unlike anything I could have imagined.”
