Thrifting for new finds is always a thrilling rush when it’s coupled with serious savings, and while you may have to consider yourself lucky to score those deals, using buy-and-sell platforms can even that playing field.

Welcome to the world of Karrot, where secondhand shopping, value, and even new connections are colliding right here in Edmonton. But don’t just take our word for it — we caught up with fellow Karrot user Danita Capowsky for the deets on her local Karrot journey!

After stumbling upon an Instagram ad about the Karrot platform, it wasn’t long before it became Capowsky’s preferred buy-and-sell platform, highlighting its “easy-to-use” interface and “quick-responding” customer service team. “With Karrot, I never feel alone. I feel like I have a support system behind me, and my experience has been excellent ever since,” Capowsky tells us.

With Karrot, safety is always of the utmost importance, which is why it’s the only marketplace app with verified users! Unlike other platforms, all Karrot users confirm and verify personal information and even use Know Your Customer (KYC) verification so that you know you’re chatting with another person — not a bot!

Winning that thrifting game

Karrot is known for a great thrift hunt, where antiques, collectibles and rare items are commonly sought out and quickly snapped up. If the thrift gods are guiding you, you might just pick up some wins.

Take it from Capowsky, who scored a 1900s’ swivel piano stool in mint condition — “I absolutely love it, and the best part of it all, it was free!” she enthusiastically recalls. Talk about a double win!

Even better, how about giving a loved item a new lease on life? “Someone is always cleaning out mom’s or dad’s closet and giving away items that they couldn’t be bothered with. Those finds are always my favourite,” she says. One person’s trash is another person’s tickle trunk, am I right?

And with spring cleaning knocking on everyone’s door in Edmonton, Karrot is one of the easiest ways to declutter and reduce waste, keeping that sustainable lifecycle going.

Community on demand

Using Karrot not only guarantees cool finds, but it also allows users to meet new people and connect within the Edmonton community. For Capowsky, it’s made for some fun times with neighbours and pals!

“I have had the opportunity to meet some of the kindest people. After some long talks on my front porch, I have come to find that they live down the street from me. Some around the corner and on the same block,” she says.

She even shared a tearjerking moment with a fellow Karrot user after the untimely passing of her new puppy. “I had some belongings of his that I needed to find the right time to let go. I wanted to give them away for free,” she explains. After meeting with a young lady who desperately needed the items, the two chatted and connected, helping Capowsky during that moment.

“It was so nice knowing that I was giving these items away to someone in my community who needed them. Helping others with no expectation of anything in return is a very rewarding feeling.” Okay, readers, pass the tissues!
