Sidekicks are Fortnite‘s versions of pets. They’ll run alongside you in just about every Fortnite mode and make your experience that much more enjoyable because who doesn’t love having a cute little guy beside them at all times?

To add an extra bit of customization to Sidekicks, players will be able to change their appearances and even rename them to make them their own. However, there are a few drawbacks to customizing them that you should know.

Here’s how to customize your Sidekicks in Fortnite by changing their appearance and renaming them.

How to customize your Sidekick’s appearance in Fortnite

Before you decide to change your Sidekick’s appearance, it’s important to know that whatever change you decide to make will be permanent. There will be no going back. If you ever want to choose a different appearance, you will have to purchase the same Sidekick again. Sidekicks will vary in price, but they can and will cost upwards of 1,000 V-bucks.

So, before you lock in your choices, make sure that this is the one you want, or else you’ll be spending a lot of money.

To change your Sidekick’s appearance, follow these steps:

1. Go to the “Locker” menu.
2. Choose the “Sidekicks” tab on the left side of your screen.
3. Select the Sidekick whose appearance you want to change.
4. Adjust your Sidekicks appearance by going through each option and choosing your preferred look. Make sure this is the appearance you want as you cannot change it later.
5. Click on “Next Step” to review how your Sidekick looks.
6. Hold the “Lock-In” button to finish customizing your Sidekick.

After you finish customizing your Sidekick, you can make your Sidekick your own by editing their style. Return to the “Sidekicks” menu, select your desired Sidekick, and click on the three dots to open a pop-up menu. Choose “Edit Style” to open another menu featuring additional cosmetics like shirts, reactions, and emotes.

How to change your Sidekick’s name in Fortnite

Changing your Sidekick’s name is a little more lenient than customizing their appearance, as you can rename your pets as often as you’d like.

The first time you can name your Sidekick is immediately after you finish customizing them, but if you’d like to rename your Sidekick, follow these steps:

1. Go to the “Locker” menu.
2. Choose the “Sidekicks” tab on the left side of your screen.
3. Select the Sidekick whose name you want to change and click on the three dots.
4. Click on “Rename” and type in your Sidekick’s new name.
5. Select “Save” to confirm your chosen name.
