Emotes in Nioh 3 are gestures that give your character a little more expression. You can make your character pose in playful ways, perform emotes like high five, bow, point, pray, beg, and more. While they’re useful in co-op play to communicate with your partner, they also have another purpose: to charm enemies and be rewarded with loot.

Only two specific enemies — Nurikabes and Mujinas — can be affected by this, so here’s everything you need to know about how to emote in Nioh 3.

To emote in Nioh 3, you must hold down R1 and press the options button with a PS5 controller, or press G on PC. This will open up the gesture menu, presenting you with a variety of options across a few pages.

Whenever you encounter a Nurikabe (the Yokai disguised as walls, that you can also remove the talisman from behind them) or a Mujina (the badger-esque Yokai that will sometimes spring out of a chest when you open it and transform into a ninja), you can perform emotes to charm them.

For the Nurikabe, keep an eye out for any bloody graves nearby, as these can give hints as to what emote you need to perform. As for the Mujina, you’ll need to copy the emote they do as soon as they appear. Otherwise, you’ll have to fight the ninja.

That’s all there is to it. For more help with Nioh 3, check out our top tips, how to change appearance, and how to get both Yokai Teardrops and Glory.
