There are four endings in Metaphor: ReFantazio — parts of the game that technically conclude with a credits scroll. There is, however, just one real ending if you wish to complete the story; the other three are bad endings that will cut your journey short.

There are no trophies or achievements for seeing the bad endings, but it will also not affect your progress in the game, so you might still be interested in discovering what these endings are. To learn how to see them for yourself, read on to see how to get all endings in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Naturally, spoilers abound.

Can you see all Metaphor: ReFantazio’s endings in one playthrough?

It’s possible to see all four of Metaphor’s endings in a single playthrough, even though you won’t obtain any trophies or achievements for the first three, which are more like false bad endings based on a dialogue choice that causes the story to end prematurely. They’re also endings you’ll mostly be reading instead text of instead.

These choices are quite clearly signposted during the latter part of the story so you’re unlikely to miss them. Fortunately, these also usually occur after an autosave, so it’s fine to make the bad choice to see what happens, safe in the knowledge you won’t lose any significant progress coming back to it.

How to get the bad ending with the Prince

The earliest ending you can get comes when you have reached 9/24 in the story. At the Ancient Eldan Sanctum, the protagonist will find that the Prince has been slain. Yet upon seeing his corpse, a mysterious voice will reveal to you the truth of your real identity, that you are in fact the Prince’s idealism made manifest in a new body made from magla. However, you can choose to refuse this truth, at which point, despite the distraught reactions from your companions, the journey comes to an abrupt end.

How to get the bad ending with Louis

The second bad ending occurs during the endgame when you reach Louis, who is waiting for you at the end of Skybound Avatar, which can be accessed from 9/26 to 10/25. Instead of a boss fight at the end of this long dungeon, he will launch into a lengthy speech on how he wishes to change the unfair world of the current status quo, albeit for something even more hellish and cruel where the world is run rampant with “humans.”

However, he invites you to join him in this new dystopia and you have the choice to take his side by choosing the “You’re absolutely right” dialogue option. Despite the shock from your companions, they will nonetheless fall in line, telling themselves that this will be better than simply prolonging a cycle of injustice. At this, you’ll learn that the nation was transformed into a world of humans, with everything coming before forever lost, while what becomes of the world after is irrelevant.

How to get the bad ending with More

The third bad ending comes during the final battle with Louis on the Tyrant’s Star Louis that occurs on 10/26. After defeating his first phase, which will follow with several cutscenes, the protagonist will seemingly die but be rescued at the last moment by More, teleporting him back to Akademeia. It is here that things go a bit Matrix-y, as you find yourself standing in Shibuya, Tokyo, and More explains that the United Kingdom of Euchronia, the Tournament, the allies you fought with, and that whole world is just a doomed fiction, whereas our real world is also his reality all along. If you accept what More says then the story also ends here, the fantasy having been only fiction all along.

Unlike the previous bad endings, this ending is only available after a pretty lengthy boss battle followed by multiple cutscenes, so be aware that if you take this path, you’ll have to redo a boss fight if you wish to continue the story to its true conclusion.

How to get the true ending in Metaphor: ReFantazio

To get the true ending in Metaphor, you simply have to ignore the bad choices and finish the game by defeating Louis once and for all on 10/26, which is admittedly very tough with three phases in total. Upon his defeat, your protagonist’s face will finally take up the whole of the rock, winning the majority of the kingdom’s support to be the new king. The story won’t just move onto the coronation a few days later but also fast-forward to a year later for a lengthy epilogue where you can see how Euchronia’s been changing for the better and also speak again to all of the Followers you reached max rank with.

And with that, fantasy lives on! Also, you’ll get the Coronation of the King trophy or achievement.
