Facewear, like glasses, have a separate slot to equip in Final Fantasy 14, so you can wear hats and glasses.

This update came out in version 7.0 alongside the launch of the Dawntrail expansion, so you can actually trade in your old glasses for the new facewear accessories.
While these do get a slot on your equipment screen, they’re for glamour only, providing no stats.

Below, we explain where to get facewear in FFXIV and how to equip facewear correctly.

How to unlock facewear in FFXIV

Facewear works like fashion accessories in that you obtain one-time use items to unlock them permanently.

If you already had some of the level 1 glasses glamours from before the 7.0 update, you can exchange them for the facewear by doing the following:

  1. Take out all the glasses you have in your glamour dresser.
  2. Go talk to a Calamity Salvager. Select the option “Spectacles Exchange.” This will convert any of your eligible glasses into facewear automatically.
  3. Check which you got through the character > facewear menu.

You can find Calamity Salvagers in any of the three main towns: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (11.4, 14.4), Old Gridania (10, 8.4), and Ul’dah – Steps of Thal (12.6, 13.1).

Note that some items don’t convert the way you may expect them to. While we had the “pair of pince-nez” glasses, it did not trade in for the “contemporary pince-nez” glasses. Not all the glasses also transfer to 1:1 copies of itself. I traded in the “classic spectacles” and got the “oval spectacles” facewear, which look pretty different.

You can also get other glasses via the Gold Saucer from the prize claim attendant (under the “Prize Exchange III” menu). The following glasses are for sale:

  • Thick-rimmed Glasses (30,000 MGP)
  • Contemporary Pince-nez (40,000 MGP)
  • Rimless Glasses (70,000 MGP)
  • Minstrel’s Spectacles (90,000 MGP)
  • Oval Spectacles (100,000 MGP)

On patch 7.0’s debut, there may be other glasses accessories tucked away behind NPC shops and rewards, but these are the ones we know about at the time of writing.

How to equip facewear in FFXIV

To set your facewear, simply open up your facewear menu through the character menu, select the color of the glasses you want to wear, and select “equip.” That’s all there is to it.

If you’re having a hard time doing this, make sure you’re not clicking the “style” of facewear and that you’re selecting from the “color” section below it.

Once you’re finished, you can update your gear set and the facewear you selected will save with it, allowing you to wear different glasses with different outfits. Nice!
