Electronic Arts and DICE will reveal the next mainline Battlefield game on Thursday, more than four years after the release of Battlefield 2042 and EA’s ensuing promise to revitalize the flagging franchise with new management and an all-in approach from multiple game studios. Battlefield 6’s reveal will arrive on July 24, at 8 a.m. PDT/11 a.m. EDT.
Our first official look at Battlefield 6 features a squad of four soldiers — which seemingly align with the classic Battlefield roles of assault, engineer, medic, and support — overlooking Manhattan from Brooklyn. Fighting appears to be breaking out across air, sea, and land, with the Brooklyn Bridge in particular sustaining heavy fire. Like previously revealed concept art for Battlefield 6, the imagery shows a modern combat setting.
Some players have been playtesting Battlefield 6 this year, and alpha footage of the game has sneaked out of those tests. DICE and EA have also publicly detailed in-development changes to Battlefield gameplay through Battlefield Labs, which has been described as EA’s “most ambitious community development collaboration ever.”
EA and DICE have been testing “the pillars of play, like core combat and destruction” and gathering feedback on weapons, vehicles and gadgets through Battlefield Labs. EA and DICE have set expectations to changes to Battlefield’s class system, which will feature both predefined aspects (signature weapons, traits, and gadgets) and customizable aspects (weapon loadouts, throwables, non-signature gadgets). Expect changes to destruction and movement and gunplay handling as well.
