After the last six years, we’ve earned over 4 million PC Optimum Points.
We have over 7 million PC Optimum points moving into year eight but struggle to spend.
Going into 8 Years, we have over 7 million PC Optimum Points, and we have no idea how to spend the points.
What we find interesting is that we understand how the PC Optimum Points program works.
I’m here to show you how you can make as many points as we have with little effort at all.
Of course, I’m not here to brag about the points, as I’d rather be the guy who taught you how fast PC Optimum Points add up.
Today, I plan to prepare to find out our strategy.
I’ve lost count of how often we’ve been asked whether we would spend our 4 million PC Optimum Points.
That’s a whopping $4000!
Update 2023: Currently, we have 6.4 million PC Optimum Points, over $6000 in points.
It’s not that we don’t want to spend our PC Optimum Points because we do.
We don’t know what we want to spend them on just yet. Sounds silly, I know, but it’s the truth.
The PC Optimum Points program, formally called PC Plus, is one of the top rewards programs in Canada. It’s lucrative, addictive, and can save you big bucks.
After earning 6 million PC points, we have some insight into how the program works.
The PC Optimum program is run through the Loblaws corporation, meaning if you have Loblaws banner stores in your area, you have the program available.
The only exception is the T&T supermarket.
On February 1, 2018, PC Plus via Loblaws merged with the Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum program after acquiring the business to become the PC Optimum program.
Both rewards programs joined forces, giving shoppers more rewards power and places to spend their PC Optimum points.
How To Earn PC Optimum Points Fast?
Earning our almost 4 million PC Optimum Points has taken us four years, the same age as our son.
Before our son came around, we would spend our amassed points during “Spend Your Points” events.
These events offer more money for your points, but that slowly ended for us when our baby came along.
It was far easier to spend and save money than to redeem our points, which is why they’ve built up so high.
Trying to redeem points with a baby/toddler in tow was too overwhelming, so we kept earning points.
Remember that my wife has a disability, so we always shop.
Knowing The Right Time To Shop
The rewards points stack up fast when you shop on 20x the points day, online, in-store PC Optimum points specials, PC Optimum App points (Android or Apple), PC Financial MasterCard, pharmacy (not prescriptions), and the grocery store.
We get all our prescriptions from Shoppers Drug Mart, so we are already entering the store.
There is a good reason the pharmacy is at the back of the store, haha! It’s clever marketing, I think.
Milk is one product we always buy if offered 20x the points on our app.
When we buy four bags, it’s like getting one 4-litre bag free back in points.
Who wouldn’t be right? Yes, we freeze our milk bags.
For every dollar you spend in a PC store, you get 15 PC Optimum points, which translates into dollar for dollar in points.
For example, if you have 10,000 PC Optimum Points, you redeem $10 in rewards points.
- 10,000 points = $10
- 20,000 points = $20
- 30,000 points = $30
- 40,000 points =$40
I advise you not to cash in your points unless you need to. Holding off until a Mega Points event is very important.
Doing so will make your points worth more money, and you can purchase more by redeeming them.

Shoppers Optimum Program
Savvy Shoppers Earn More PC Optimum Points
PC Optimum Points help us value everyday essentials but earning rewards and knowing your prices are significant.
For example, when we grocery shop at Zehrs or No Frills and even Shoppers Drug Mart during 20x the points, we only buy what is on sale, and if the price is less, then we can get it on sale somewhere else.
This may mean we have coupons to apply to our order or points to help bring the cost down, making sense to purchase the item.
Mrs. CBB uses NeoStrata face products to keep her skin youthful and blemish-free.
If you know of the product line Neostrata then you know it’s costly to buy, but it works for her.
Self-care is a big part of her life, as it should be for anyone, and her beauty regime is essential to her.
She will only buy health and beauty products when they are on sale, with a coupon and 20x the PC Optimum Points when you spend $75 or $100.
She might as well earn enough points back to get one free product and wouldn’t get that deal anywhere else.
This is how we have earned almost 4 million PC Optimum points in 4 years, smart shopping.
If you are that person who says they won’t shop at Shoppers Drug Mart because it’s too expensive, think again.
If you buy the same products somewhere (i.e., non-Loblaws stores), you could earn PC Optimum points, which equals free stuff.
