Hyatt Hotels Corporation plans to rebrand Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House and Beach House as Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen. The hotel is expected to reopen under the new brand by the end of 2024, becoming Mexico’s second Hyatt Centric property.
The decision to rebrand was strategically based on the hotel’s prime location in the center of Playa del Carmen, a characteristic feature of the Hyatt Centric brand. The hotel on Fifth Avenue offers easy access to shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife, allowing guests to fully experience the coastal Mexican beach town.
Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen will have 119 guestrooms and suites, including 92 at the adults-only ‘Downtown House’ and 27 at the family-friendly ‘Beach House.’ The rooms will feature mid-century modern décor, custom furnishings, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer city or ocean views. Suites will boast living areas, outdoor balconies with day beds or plunge pools, and other amenities such as walk-in rain showers and locally inspired art and styling elements.
The ‘Downtown House’ will cater to guests aged 18 and above, offering a vibrant rooftop social scene inspired by La Quinta Avenida’s culture. The rooftop will feature UMI Urban Kitchen and Alessia Dayclub, providing an exclusive experience with an infinity pool, a swim-up bar, luxury cabanas, and a calendar of events. The Market, open 24 hours, will offer locally inspired snacks, coffee, and quick meals.
Guests at the ‘Beach House’ will be transported from the ‘Downtown House’ in a Volkswagen Vintage Beetle. Ideal for honeymoons, weddings, or family vacations, the ‘Beach House’ offers an oceanfront pool, suites with views of the Caribbean Sea, and the C Grill restaurant serving Mexican, Caribbean, and international cuisine.
The hotel will also offer versatile outdoor and semi-outdoor event spaces designed by architectural firm Niz + Chauvet, suitable for business meetings, incentive trips, and weddings. The ‘Beach House,’ with its 27 rooms, is ideal for group buyouts, offering a private and exclusive experience.
“The Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen will offer guests a launch pad to explore La Quinta Avenida and Playa del Carmen,” said Ankara Angulo, General Manager, Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen. The hotel is set to add new experiences to the vibrant beach town.
